Amber Maze and the Shadow II

“What?” I asked exasperated.
My dreams took Travis and I to an open field I didn’t know existed in New Orleans.  They told me one of my nightmares, Shadow, was wrecking the Dream Realm and I had until sunset to defeat him or he’ll be released upon the human world.
“He’s found a way to travel through shadows and since our world is strangely close to yours, it’s in danger,” Milton said.  He was fixing his top hat and bow tie while explaining this to me as if he’s done it a hundred times.  He only looked at me once and his eyes were like a cat’s, they reflected a rainbow of colors.
“So, I’m supposed to stab this shadow or something?”
“His name is Shadow, dear,” Song corrected.  She was sitting next to Milton in a pale pink flannel dress, her hair tied back with gold ribbon and she held her Lyre out for Tabitha to paw at.  Tabitha was the size of a Great Dane with a dog’s body from the waist up and the rest was cat, but her fur was as golden as sunlight.
“So, this is real?  I’m not imagining you guys?”
“Of course it’s real half-wit, I can see them too,” Travis said for the first time in a long time.  He was sitting far from Song and shifted awkwardly when she spoke.
I was about to retort when Song cut me off.
“Let’s not bicker over little things, there are much bigger matters.  Amber, you have less than five hours until sunset to defeat Shadow.”
“How am I supposed to kill a shadow?”
“Do you know how Shadow was created?” Milton asked.
“Sure, he was my first nightmare, when my father died Shadow took him in my dream,” I recalled.
“Exactly,” Song said, “he was created through fear.”
“And?”
“To defeat him, you must conquer your fear, Amber.”
“Simple as that?”
“Simple as that.”
“Then let’s get to it!”
